Rating Baby Keem’s “The Melodic Blue”

Last Friday, Baby Keem’s “The Melodic Blue” dropped. During this blog, I will rate every song on the album, then rate the album as a whole.

Trademark usa was a great way to start off the album. The beat switched were perfect and amazed me by keeping my attention so well. Each beat switch felt like a different artist made it, and almost a different genre of music.

Pink Panties was my second favorite song on the album. The chorus brought me 2000’s 50 cent vintage vibes, and Baby Keem’s flow was amazing as usual.

Scapegoats was also very good. It showed off Baby Keem’s rapping skills, and at the same time was an intro for the album and a great intro into Range Brothers. A similar track to Scapegoats would be Tyler, The Creators “Sometimes”.

Range Brothers was a superb track and Kendrick Lamar’s first feature on the album. I really enjoy Kendrick’s new flow that we also saw on Family Ties.

Issues felt like it could have been a song on the Black Panther album. It really brought me nostalgia from the track “Pray For Me” because of the similarities.

Speaking of nostalgia, the next track is Gorgeous. Taking a sample from 808s and Heartbreak, similar to the second track on the album, brought 2000’s Kanye West vintage vibes for obvious reasons.

The next track is South Africa, my least liked track on the album. Even though this is my least favorite track, I would still listen to its entirety if it came on on Spotify.  This shows that even the worse song on “The Melodic Blue” is superb in its own right.

Lost Souls really shows Baby Keem’s versatility. A lot of this song Keem sounds very similar to Xxxtentacion, Swae Lee, and even Lil Tjay.

I absolutely loved Cocoa. At first I was a little let down by Don Toliver’s verse because I was expecting something up to par compared to his verse on Dawn Toliver, and in my opinion, the feature was not nearly as good. But the more I listen to this track, the more I enjoy it.

I am skipping Family Ties and Durag Activity due to the songs already being out before the release of the album.

During the song Scars, Baby Keem really brought out his Lil Tjay voice. At first, I thought it was actually just a hidden feature from Lil Tjay, but then I realized it was just Baby Keem.

I really loved Booman. Like a lot of tracks on this album, it was different from anything Keem has tried before.

First Order of Business was great. It felt like a track off of “If Your Seeing This Its Too Late” due to the low energy, but that doesn’t take away from how good the track is.

Now onto the best song on the album, Vent. Both this song and family ties are 10/10s, and two of the best songs I have ever listened to. Kendrick and Keem going back and forth on these tracks are truly unbeatable.

16 felt like a perfect way to end the album. Keem really showed off his vocals, and I would love if he would drop more songs similar to this.

Overall, this album is an incredible listen. Some of the biggest names, Drake, Kanye and even J Cole cannot compete with current Baby Keem. After “Donda” and Clb dropped I kept CMIYGL as album of the year, but “The Melodic Blue” has officially dethroned Tyler, The Creator. I give Baby Keem’s “The Melodic Blue” a 10/10.
